Guru merupakan insan mulia kerana menurunkan ilmu kepada anak-anak muridnya dengan sepenuh hati, walau bagaimanapun keberkesanan penyampaian ilmu bergantung kepada sejauh mana kesungguhan dan niatnya yang baik.

Islam sentiasa memberi panduan kepada para guru agar memperkasa dan memperbaiki diri agar menjadi golongan pendidik yang betul-betul memenuhi tuntutan seperti yang difirmankan oleh Allah SWT menerusi ayat 122 surah at-Taubah yang bermaksud : Mengapa tidak pergi dari tiap-tiap golongan (di kalangan umat Islam) di antara mereka beberapa orang untuk memperdalami pengetahuan mereka tentang agama dan untuk memberi peringatan kepada kaumnya (masyarakat) apabila mereka telah kembali kempangkuan mereka, supaya mereka (masyarakat) itu lebih berwaspada.

Berdasarkan ayat di atas, Allah SWT menekankan dua perkara utama kepada golongan guru (yang menunutut ilmu) bagi mencapai keberkesanan penggarapan ilmu yang dipelajari:

Arahan Allah untuk memperdalami dan bukannya kekadar belajar.
Arahan Allah selepas proses penggarapan ilmu, menyedarkan masyarakatnya dengan memberi peringatan dan bukannya mengajar.

Kedua-dua konsep itulah yang meletakkan seseorang yang menuntut ilmu itu mencapai status pendidik iaitu satu kedudukan yang lebih tinggi daripada seorang guru.

Ini kerana, pendidik bukan sekadar mengajar atau mencurahan ilmu kepada pelajarnya, malah memastikan para pelajarnya benar-benar mempraktikkan segala ilmu yang digarap, di tambah pula peranan pendidik mampu menjiwai permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh pelajarnya serta mengadakan program susulan jangka panjang (long term follow up planning).

Berbeza dengan tugas seorang guru, kerana ada di antara mereka hanya sekadar mengajar dan mungkin juga tidak mempedulikan aspek program susulan, baginya yang penting mereka telah menyampaikan ilmu, tetapi sebenarnya keberkesanan sesuatu ilmu itu bergantung kepada lima perkara untuk mencapai status pendidik yang berdedikasi dan komited terhadap kerjayanya seperti yang pernah dilontarkan persoalan ini oleh Syeikh Prof dr Yusuf al-Qaradawi dalam bukunya yang bertajuk "Rasul dan ilmu pengetahuan".

Di mana beliau ada menegaskan, bahawa apabila seorang pendidik itu mampu merealisasikan lima perkara berikut, nescaya dia melonjakkan kedudukan sebagai pendidik atau pewaris nabi-nabi, lima perkara itu adalah seperti berikut :

Perasaan tanggungjawab terhadap agama, pelajar, masyarakat dan negara.
Amanah keilmuan yang digarap, dalam erti kata, dia akan mengharamkan apa yang diharamkan Allah dan menghalalkan apa yang dihalalkan oleh Allah, bukan sebaliknya, kerana ia adalah satu amanah yang besar yang akan disoal di akhirat nanti.
Mengembalikan 'Izzah (kemuliaan) Islam yang dicerobohi oleh tangan-tangan pengkhianat dan perosak Islam dengan meletakkannya di tempat yang paling tinggi dalam kehidupan masyarakat.
Ada perasaan tawadu' (rendah diri) terhadap orang lain.
Beramal dengan kesesuaian ilmu yang digarap, dalam erti kata tidak menyanggah tindakan dengan penghayatan ilmu.

Sehubungan itu baginda Rasulullah s.a.w ada bertanya kepada Malaikat Jibril, berhubung siapakah golongan pendidik (ahli ilmu sebenar)?, Jibril menjawab : Sesungguhnya mereka ibarat pelana umatmu di dunia dan akhirat, beruntunglah mereka yang mengenali dan menghormati mereka dan nerakalah bagi mereka yang membenci serta menyanggah mereka (ahli ilmu/pendidik).

Konsep penghormatan kepada golongan pendidik

Jelas daripada hadis di atas, baginda telah menggariskan satu tindakan yang berkesan bagi meletakkan penghormatan sewajarnya kepada mereka.

Pengamalan dalam masyarakat umat Islam dalam negara kita yang berpaksikan nilai-nilai penghormatan terhadap golongan pendidik/guru adalah dijelmakan oleh fahaman barat, iaitu mereka diberikan hadiah tertentu walaupun pada masa yang sama para pelajar sebenarnya tidak bersetuju atau mengkritik guru-guru mereka atau mungkin juga berlaku biadap terhadap mereka, tindakan ini disifatkan menyalahi tuntutan ayat di atas yang sepatutnya mereka (pelajar) mendapat peringatan agar tidak meniru-niri gaya hidup masyarakat barat dan sebagainya.

Tetapi bagi menutup kesalahan dan kelemahan mereka, para pendidik/guru diraikan pada satu hari yang dikenali dengan 'hari guru', pelajar yang tidak menerima nasihat pun menghulurkan hadiah kerana inilah peluang bagi menyekat kemarahan atau kebencian guru terhadap mereka, pelajar yang datang dari keluarga berada walaupun tidak memiliki akhlak yang baik, mampu mengadiahkan gurunya pelbagai bentuk hadiah yang menarik, ini menyebabkan gurunya bias terhadapnya, rasa nak marah pun hilang dari mindanya.

Sedangkan pelajar yang benar-benar menepati ayat di atas tetapi kerana kemiskinan serta tidak mampu untuk menghadiahkan gurunya sebarang bentuk hadiah, dipinggirkan daripada minda dan sanubari guru, persoalannya di sini hadiah yang diterima oleh guru boleh disifatkan satu bentuk rasuah cara moden.

Inilah kejayaan musuh Islam bagi merenggangkan golongan pendidik/guru dengan para pelajarnya yang dihormati hanya pada satu hari iaitu "hari guru", sedangkan pada hari-hari yang lain mereka sudah tidak dihormati apatah lagi untuk melaksanakan arahan mereka untuk menjadi individu cemerlang, akibatnya mereka tidak sanggup untuk menegur atau memberi nasihat kepada para pelajar kerana disebaban hadiah yang diterima.

Akhirnya institusi pendidikan di kalangan umat Islam tidak mampu melahirkan individu-individu seperti Imam hanafi, Maliki, Syafie, Hanbali, al-Ghazali, Ibnu Sina dan ramai lagi.

Marilah kita sama-sama kembalikan maruah golongan pendidik/guru/ahli ilmu dengan menghormati mereka dengan bentuk yang diajarkan oleh Rasulullah s.a.w, iaitu mendengar nasihat mereka, mengenali serta melaksanakan segala ajaran mereka dan bukannya membenci mereka apatah lagi menyanggah mereka dengan tindakan yang tidak sepatutnya.
